Decent selection of titles, with loads of pre-owned or 'budget' games. The staff seemed very knowledgeable, but left me feeling a little bit patronised when I asked a question about the release date of a particular game - but I can let that stuff slide. I bought 2 pre-owned 360 games over 3 months ago and both were in immaculate condition and are still working fine. Overall a decent shop with a decent selection of titles.
I stayed in the South Lodge hotel several weeks ago and had a very pleasent experience. The staff are very nice, friedly and informed and the bar area is very well decorated, with decent prices for drinks and food. They also have a wireless connection which I found invaluable. The rooms are simple but clean and tidy as you would expect. A very good small hotel.
I bought a stereo setup here a while back without really have a clue what I wanted or any knowledge whatsoever. The staff went above and beyond in trying to help me decide from the vast array of systems out there. They had some great advice and didn't just push me toward the more expensive ranges like some staff do. They also performed a first class job with the installation. I can't recommend them enough.
The Saracens Head has been around in one guise or another for donkey's years. They seem to have a group of interchangeable owners and management! As 'D-Place' it was on Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares and didn't show much of an improvement during the course of the show. These day's it doesn't seem much different aside from reverting back to its original name. The food is just OK. Nothing special but not dreadful either. The staff seemed friendly enough, if a little pre-occupied. Could well be in-experience as previous reviewer mentioned. During the summer they have a large area of tables and chairs outside, which is quite nice. Inside is very cramped, especially on the weekends. There seems to be a massive potential here but for whatever reasons, nobody can seem to help realise that potential. Average
Baroosh is a fairly typical bar/restaurant during the day and bar/club during the evening. The staff are nice and friendly and it doesn't seem to get overcrowded during the day time. They have WiFi, which is good, I often sit and do a bit of work while enjoying a coffee. It's a nice looking place too, with comfortable chairs and plenty of them. Recommended
The Odeon in Chelmsford is quite a nice cinema. Although still a national chain, I prefer the smaller Odeons too the large Cine World complexes. As with all cinemas, the food and drink prices are extortionate and they forbid you bringing anything in with you. The real problem is because they have 10 screens in a fairly small building the majority of the screens are too small, with quite cramped seating. Not too bad - and it's not as if you have much choice in Chelmsford anyway.
The ship is a fairly large pub located near the station in Chelmsford town centre. It's very comfortable with lots of tables and chairs both inside and outside during the summer. The staff seemed very nice and friendly and the atmosphere light and pleasant. A good old english pub! Recommended.
Nice looking shop with a decent selection of designer labels with decent ranges. The staff seem slightly over eager, which can be intimidating. Very expensive, in my opinion over-priced even for designer clothing. But if you're looking for expensive designer gear in Chelmsford, this must be the best place to go.
These days it's quite difficult to avoid one of the large coffee shop chains if you fancy sitting down for a coffee in a town. Recess is conveniently close to the centre of Chelmsford and offers coffee of equal quality to starbucks, nero and costa and better prices. The staff are more friendly too as you'd expect from a small business. For me, more more preferable to Starbucks.
These days I only use PC world if I really have to. Last week a chip fan on my PC blew and I had to go there to purchase a replacement. Typically, the fan I bought didn't quite fit despite the salesman's promise and I had to go out again the following week to buy another. It always seems to be vastly over-staffed with kids who don't seem to want to help you! To me, it seems as though everyone's running around trying to look busy, without actually being busy! The staff never seem to be quite up to scratch either, especially if you have a slightly more technical question. Their selection of goods is pretty limited too, despite being such a large chain. More often than not, where normally you would want a selection of an particular item to chose from, they stock the poorest, cheapest version of what you want. Like I said, useful in an emergency, but if you have time, go elsewhere...
