This is a really relaxed and informal stables, and a great place for beginners to gain confidence. A big bonus is the extensive grounds - instead of plodding around a school, you usually have lessons riding around large fields and in a little copse. Much more interesting for horses and riders. Quite a variety of horses and instructors. Some of the instructors are very experienced, and some are enthusiastic newcomers. Beginners group rides are more like just having a ride around the fields than an intensive lesson - very nice for small kids, but if you want to make some progress you may need to have some individual lessons to speed things up. I took my kids to a different stables to get some intensive tuition from a 'traditional' teacher, to get them to the stage where they could go off the lead rein, but they much preferred the informal approach at Mottingham Farm and didn't want to go back to the other place. I do think that they have got a lot more out of MFRC once they got to this stage, though. They have plenty of hats for you to borrow if you need them, and the charges are reasonable - # 13 for a half hour group lesson. The horses seem well cared for. The whole place is busy and relaxed - a bit tatty, but we love it!
I agree with Graham, I was the same. I was the only guy there sarounded by all the girls. I have not been there for a while and plan to go back to maybe have a ride or to see if there is anyone still there that I know. I really miss the place.
Mottingham farm is the best riding school ever. You have fields to ride in and also a stream that you can ride through. The peple there are great and belive me so are the horses...It beats any riding school and if more people go there they will see how good it is and come back again. So come and give us a go!
My 7 year old daughter learnt to ride at Mottingham Farm, she started riding at Mottingham farm at 4 years and became confident to ride by the time she was 5 on her own, with small jumps and trotting and cantering latter with someone running beside her The support from the Staff was excellent and the Horses were wonderful in helping my daughter along also. Very responsive rides. Private training a must if you are serious about riding.

i have riden at many other riding schools, and none have ever come close to this one. the staff are very helpfull and are allways on hand to answer horsey questions and help with your riding. the lessons are detailed and well planned. all of the horses are a joy to ride. they are noticeably well looked after. the facilities are brilliant, with many fields and an outdoor school, and i believe, a covered one on the way! i wish to say thank you to all of the staff and helpers there for making my riding experiences the most enjoyable ever!
