  • 1 RATS!RATS!RATS!

This place is infested with RATS (no not mice, but rats). I was eating there about 3 weeks ago, and I spotted a RAT in the corner of my eyes. The waiters and waitresses came by as I screamed, only to have them ONLY be concerned about "where the rat has been for the past while, since they haven't seen them around". I was absolutely disgusted to find them fully aware of the infestation, that they even know where the rat had dug holes around the place. They didn't even apologize for it or offer any sort of courtesy. They know they have rats running around, but they refuse to do anything about it (which explains the dim lights, so people wont spot them) One of the waitresses even had the audacity to say that "it's no big deal, it's normal". No it's not normal to eat with rats at a restaurant! DO NOT EAT HERE!

  • 2 Could do better

Although I enjoy their food, the service is appalling. I am often left with the impression that the staff would prefer it if the money just rolled in without them having to actually have any contact with customers. These days I generally try to avoid going but invariably, after a few months, forget just how bad the service is, remembering only how tasty the food is and go back. It takes only 1-2 visits before I'm sworn off again.

  • 1 Disppointing experience at Boulevard

I'm trying hard to think of something positive to say about this hugely disappointing restaurant. It is a struggle. The frites. They were superb. Some of the best I've had in a long while. A vast bowl of them - thin, crips and totally moreish.I think that is all though. Sadly, my experience here was a disaster from start to finish. Service was dreadful - a surly waitress complete with requisite Gallic shrug who reminded me of the character from Little Britain who says 'The computer says no'. Could I have caramel rather than vanilla ice-cream with my dessert? No. It comes with vanilla. End of conversation. Could my friend possibly add her own Worcestershire sauce to her tomato juice? No. Could we sit at a table with a little more space, in the quieter front of the restaurant rather than squashed up beside a table having their office Christmas party? No.I hoped that the food would be better. Apart from the chips and the wilted spinach that seemed to accompany almost every dish, it was all disappointing. Seabass was over cooked and dry. My steak was tough and exceedingly fatty. The bearnaise sauce was gloopy and looked as though it had been sitting around for a while. Why we though it would be a good idea to order pudding, I'm not sure. In any case, it was a mistake. Actually, perhaps that is a little unfair. My friend's poached pear was fine but my chocolate fondant was almost inedible. We'd had a long, long wait for the puddings and clearly the wait had been too long for the chocolate fondant - it was overcooked and not runny in the middle. Also, the accompanying chocolate sauce had split and had a layer of oily butter floating on top. Underneath the vanilla ice-cream, the butter had set slightly. When I pointed this out to the waitress, she said that it wasn't butter but looked like some kind of syrup. It wasn't. It was butter.Sauces do split, things do go wrong in the kitchen, of course. But surely, you wouldn't serve something so obviously wrong? We asked for the bill (clearly another inconvenience for our waitress). When we received it, we spotted that a service charge had been included. We refused to pay this and explained why. More gallic shrugging and no apology despite the fact that we'd been polite and reasonable about everything. So, all-in-all, not somewhere I'll be returning. The service was dreadful and the food was poor to middling. Which is a shame as the restaurant itself is rather attractive, had a good buzz and was in a great location.

  • 2 Chicken delight

A great place for interesting sandwiches. The main draw is their spit roast chickens, which they sell in baguettes (half a chicken!) or with salad. Most people seem to buy take-out - the eating area is very small: cosy and relaxed during quiet times but cramped and a little stressful when busy.

  • 5 Boulevard Delí

Boulevard Delí rocks! I had the pleasure of working in Covent Garden for a few months and I often went there. The place is cosy but very small, and it tends to get crowded and noisy at lunch during the week. Better to book a table if you want to sit. Food is simply one of the best in the area, they have a mouth-watering Mediterranean menu with a wide range of sandwiches (Try Dalí, Gaudí and, of course, the Special of the Day), salads and meat dishes.I especially recommend to try chicken or special of the day, with balsamic vinegar & mustard... deliciousss.
