  • 3 Solid Local Tapas

This is one of a number of solid local restaurants on the Holloway Road - not really places to trek out to, but perfectly acceptable if you're in the area or live locally. The food is pretty standard tapas (as far as I can tell, tapas not really being one of my specialist styles of cuisine) but is moderately priced and more than made up for by an inexpensive wine list and a genuinely nice atmosphere. Not really a place to come for a romantic dinner a deux - the place works much better with a larger group - especially on the way to or from the pub.Vegetarians (and especially vegans) will tend to struggle with the menu.

This little but cosy Spanish restaurant has amazingly nice tasting food. It used to be my local and close to home eat-out place. I would definetly advise it to anyone who is hungry and around the area. Not expensive at all

  • 2 Holloway Tapas

Our first visit to Holloway was to check out a friends new flat, and it was suggested that we go for a meal nearby at El Molino Tapas Bar. We do enjoy tapas, and after reading some positive reviews online, we agreed it was a great idea.First impressions of El Molino were good. Established in 1987, it looked authentically decorated and welcoming. There were plenty of people eating there, and staff milling about ready to take or order - in fact they happily just took the scrap of paper we had scrawled our tapas choices and even managed to decipher Alex's shorthand. We ordered 8 dishes between the 3 of us. We stuck to fairly 'standard' options - the Boquerones Fritos (white bait), Calamares A La Romana (calamari), Chuletas De Cordero (lamb cutlets), Croquetas De Pollo (chicken croquettes), Fabada Asturiana (bean stew with chorizo), Berenjena Jardinera (stuffed aubergines), Patatas Bravas (potatoes with spicy sauce), and Tabla De Embutido (mixed salami, ham & Manchego cheese).Unfortunately the food was very average. The tastiest dish for me was the Fabada Asturiana, and the Croquetas De Pollo and Calamares A La Romana were ok too. I found the Boquerones Fritos way too salty and the Chuletas De Cordero were overcooked. Oh, and don't bother with the the Crema Catalana.Although the food wasn't the best, the atmosphere was great, and the wine list had enough interesting Spanish options to keep me happy.

  • 5 Spain from Spain?

OK, so I've never been to Spain; but why else skimp on implying perfection at this wonderful little local restaurant wich is certainly the best eating place for many a mile round? Try the "patatas bravas" (if you like spicy/tangy) or the wonderful Spanish sausages in wine (spanish escapes me) or any of the tapas dishes that are numerous enough to give plenty of opportunity for new tasting experiences each time you visit --- and I'll guarantee that if you want to try this place once you'll want to return! Staff (I think family run) make you feel like welcome friends. Live flamenco at weekends means all five senses are taken care of then.
