Because of its location on the corner of Trafalgar Square, the Texas Embassy Cantina has become something of a tourist trap. The menu is basically Tex-Mex with a pleasant interior. They can cater for private parties of up to 120 people and provide outside seating on the pavement.

I love the look of this restaurant. Rather than this new 'chique' style that is popular today, the Embassy has wooden floors, wooden walls and wooden tables. There are things hanging off the walls too. For me, this atmosphere is perfect. I also love the history of Texas and the Embassy written onto the menu. It provided entertaining reading for a few minutes. The food was standard. Burgers, ribs, chicken, stake. BBQ food. Cooked no better than you can do at home, but no worse than other Tex Mex restaurants. It is fine and dandy as they say in Texas. This restaurant is probably a little too big. The ceilings are too high and the room to big for the customers they get. If a little cosier the experience for me could have trebled.
The Texas Embassy Cantina specialises in Tex Mex cuisine and claims it is one of the most successful restaurants of its type in London. Its interior is decorated in a Texan theme, with steer heads mounted on the wall for example, while its drink menu specialises in the Mexican tipples of Margharitas and Tequila.Dining is split over two levels, with the upstairs section being a good place for big groups. A friend organised a meal here for 20 people one evening. As we were a large group we had to choose from a couple of set menus. To start we were given Tortilla chips with Salsa, Guacamole & Queso (hot cheese dip). For main course I opted for the "Sizzlin' grilled chicken, beef & vegetable fajitas" with assorted sides. There was also the choice of having BBQ Ribs or BBQ Chicken, or vegetarian burritos for those so inclined. We certainly couldn't complain about the amount of food - there was way too much - they just kept bringing it out. Unfortunately it wasn't very enjoyable.Desserts were supposed to be Apple Pie or Chocolate Brownies, but I managed to sweet talk the waiter into a slice of Key Lime Pie instead. Wish I hadn't bothered...it was terrible!

There isn't much choice as far as Tex-Mex goes in London. This is one of the better options but that's not really saying much. The food is passable, roughly equivalent to the mexican dishes at places like Chilis, TGIF or Hard Rock Cafe but with a much larger Tex-Mex menu. There is quite an extensive margherita menu and the couple that I had were tasty. Food is a little on the expensive side, but the portions are very large and prices are equivalent to other American chain restaurants. Its not amazing, but it does just about satisfy a craving when I fancy some burritos!
The Texas Embassy is a nice centrally located bar and restaurant with some wicked coctails. The staff are friendly and helpful. There is a huge area upstairs that can be hired out for large events which can take up to 200 people and they also have a mic and speaker for random events such as Geek Dinners and Girl Geek Dinners. The food for such events is a little expensive although the manager is very accommodating. You will find the food is always of a high standard and is very authentic!
