Established in 1691, the Plume of Feathers has a lovely tiled exterior and outdoor seating to the front and rear. Inside, the walls are packed with pictures and nautical ephemera, and the fireplace adds to the cosy atmosphere. Attracting locals, walkers and some tourists, the place gets packed and buzzes with a lively, congenial atmosphere. The Plume serves good pub grub, with a decent Sunday roast, which you can have in the restaurant area at the back or in the bar area. Adnam's' and Fuller's ales are amongst the beers behind the bar and the service is excellent. Turnover is pretty brisk at lunchtimes, so if you can't get a table immediately, wait a short while, it's worth it.
This place is as dead as a dodo, I think the smoking ban hit a lot of pubs hard, but this one was a sinking ship long before the ban came into force. You get the odd bit of passing trade but nothing to even call a crowd, its a shame really as the bones are there to make it into a decent pub, what it needs is a makeover and some PR spin with the younger crowd, but it seems the owners have just roles over and accepted their fate.I had a decent enough pint in there but one is all i could stand, a smile from the bar staff would have gone a long way to welcome me, but when you ship is sinking what is there to smile about.

Pleasant and cheerful decor, with great food and good beer selection.
