A new flower stall has opened up in the wonderful Seven Sisters Latino covered market. It is the first florist to open here. The new shop unit sells cut flowers and bouquets. It will also take orders for individuals, shops or restaurants. The business is still very new so I am told the stock will adjust as the locals and visitors determine so may later include plants and seeds. The lady who was running the place gave me some Columbian coffee whilst making up a bunch. The hall is a lovely friendly place and fun to be in to just pass the time. On my last visit there appeared to be several people with exercise books so it must be a good place to visit if you are learning Spanish. The market hall is open 9-6 Monday to Saturday but closed Sunday. The best day to go is Saturday afternoon when there are loads of Latino families eating and drinking with their friends and families. It is a lively jumble of Latino music, Spanish voices and great Colombian coffee. The Latino market has been mentioned on the BBC, in Time Out and the Guardian. The build has been given a stay of execution as the developer can sell flats so will not demolish for a few years. Which is great news for everyone.

You could walk past the covered market by Seven Sisters tube as it is quite a hidden place. There are shops and two cafes in front, so just find the double doors and enter a tiny corner of Latin America. There are about fifty stalls selling a variety of things from South American beauty products and canned and dried food stuffs, Spanish-language music and films to a whole stall of cheese and sausages. It is a lively jumble filled with music and families. Mainly Columbian but there are stall holders from Peru, Ecuador and Brazil and some of the original Afro/Caribbean traders, including a well stocked Afro/Caribbean bookshop. There are a few cafes serving Columbian food and strong coffee which will keep anyone awake for days. It mainly just seems to be a social centre where Latin people chat with their friends and families. Saturday early evening is party time. Closed on Sunday. A real gem but hard to find. Sadly it is under the threat of the developer's hammer so pop along now. Better still add your voice to the plan to save it and drop an email objection to the planning department.
