The business says...Do you have experience working with children?

Enfield Council is committed to improving the quality of life of all the looked after children and young people in Enfield and neighbouring areas. We know that we need to recruit more new and experienced carers who may live in the local area or within a 20-mile radius. Enfield are presently experiencing a shortage of white carers who can match the needs of a percentage of the Looked after children we currently need to provide permanent and temporary families to.

There are different types of fostering that carers can offer Enfield:

Long-term carers
Not all children who cannot return to their own families want to be adopted, especially older children or those who continue to have regular contact with relatives. These children live with long-term foster carers until they are ready to live independently. Can you make the commitment for a child to grow up within your family until they are at least 16 years of age?

Teenage carers
We need carer’s with good experience of looking after teenagers, or those who have been involved in work with young people at some stage in their life. Fostering a teenager involves somewhat different skills from caring for a younger child. You can make a valuable difference to the young person and help them through some of the most difficult times in their lives, and giving them a positive view of the future. Can you be positively challenged by a teenager?

Sibling group carers
Sometimes children coming into care can be part of a sibling group. It is always important to keep brothers and sisters together. But it wont all be down to you – there’s lots of help and support at hand. The best thing about fostering is keeping siblings together. Do you have enough room for 3 or more children?

Baby carers
There are times in particular when we need carers for babies who may arrive straight from hospital, before they go to live with their adoptive parents. Or return home to their birth families. Foster carer’s who care for babies don’t need a spare room but must be available to look after them full-time. You will need to have the energy and enthusiasm to support contact with birth parents.

Once you become a registered foster carer for Enfield, we will provide the following support:
• Regular support groups
• A named worker from within the fostering team to offer support and guidance
• A 24-hour support service
• Your own association – The Enfield Foster Carers Association (EFCA)
• Continual training
• NVQ Child Care Qualification
• Read Plus

If you think you could provide a loving home and change a child’s life, call us now.
