Within walking distance from some of the capital's major theatres, Amalfi is popular for pre and post theatre meals. They open at 9am and serve tea, coffee and pastries. Terrace seating is also provided.
i go here for meetings since they don't mind you only having coffee & it's always got a table whilst all the other cafes on Old Compton Street are packed. However, maybe the reason is because their coffee tastes really metallic, like it's the coffee machine or something. Shame though cause it's a good alternative place to go.

This is a gorgeous little Italian smack in the heart of Soho, and therefore offers an eclectic gathering of people. The food itself is always excellent - I have never had a bad meal here - and, along with the wine, is very reasonably priced. Staff are friendly and efficient without being 'in your face'. I cannot recommend it highly enough.
We had a meal on a Sunday evening which I could only describe as awful. I am not one to normally complain however on this occasion I feel I must. On arrival we were told the table would be 5 mins, so we went to the bar and tried to order a bottle of wine whilst we waited, only to be greeted by a rather rude woman in the middle of stocking the fridges, telling us to wait until we are seated. The restaurant itself is very nice and has a lovely atmosphere about it, however the waitress who served us was not at all professional. She failed to tell us what was not available on the menu, and after ordering she returned to the table 3 times telling us what we had ordered was not available. Not apoligising, she actually found it very amusing. My starter (around £6) was meant to be an Italian meat platter, and consisted of 3 wafer thin slices of different salami, drowned in olive oil so you couldnt even taste them, on a mountain of rocket leaves. Of course they had run out of Parma ham, but surely there are different meats they could have used, and been more generous. The main course was even worse. After not being able to have my first three choices, I settled for a veal in breadcrumbs with chips, at a mere £13.95. The veal so so greasy I couldn't eat it and the chips were not cooked ( left the lot). When I questioned the bill at the end, and asked to see the main menu to check the prices (as I had been charged for both my main meals which were not available) again no apoligy, instead I was stared at by all the waiters in the restaurant for dare questioning the bill. needless to say, never again!! Would never recommend this place.
