MALAYSIAN restaurant Puji Puji boasts some unique wall-mounted modern art - but even with this nod to the 21st century, visitors will feel closer to Kuala Lumpur than a busy high road close to Highbury Corner.With no previous experience of the country's cuisine, we were in the hands of what proved to be a polite and efficient staff and their recommendations. And a mixed platter of satay, which included vegetables, chicken, beef and prawns accompanied by a peanut sauce to die for, made for an excellent introduction. A selection of different dishes arrived for the main course. The food was fresh, vibrant and delicious and was eaten as quickly as it came out - steamed aubergine, stir-fried with chillies onion and garlic, and chicken cooked in soya sauce gave a small glimpse into the variety of dishes on offer. But we weren't done and further tastes of squid marinated in turmeric and green chillies, king prawns in blended dried chillies and shrimp paste, and rice noodles with hot sour fish gravy just made a good impression even better. Full to brimming we decided to forgo dessert but for those with bigger appetites there are a selection of sweeter treats available. Puji Puji does not sell alcohol but you are welcome to bring along your own bottle of wine to have with your meal. All in all, it is a place not to be missed and a must-visit, family-friendly restaurant

  I've travelled around Malaysia quite a bit over the last few years and so was excited when this place opened just around the corner from my flat.The first meal we ate there was a take away and we were very impressed: melt in the mouth rendang, flaky roti canai and great flame cooked satay - all of it tasting as it had in Malaysia.Second time around we ate in though and weren't so impressed. Service was a bit slow, our beef rendang went to the table next door whilst we got their chicken (we got it back), the rice dish was the wrong one and the chicken satay had a couple that weren't cooked enough. Service and raw chicken aside the food was just as good as the first time so was a shame it had been spoilt by other bits.The food is very good though so I'd recommend giving it a go if you're in the area, it's got the added bonus of being reasonably cheap and allowing you to bring your own alcohol.One thing to bear in mind is it's cash only.
