Morpeth Society HA Ltd is sub-contracted by Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea Council (and is paid approx. GB£350 per week per resident, half is rent, half is for providing care and support) operates a home in London SW10 for people with severe and enduring mental health problems yet employs people from all staff tiers (Committee, managers, "Support" staff) who have no experience or qualifications working with people who have mental health problems, and a poor attitude and little sensitivity to catering for their needs. To the degree that there are residents in the London SW10 house who have become unwell as a direct result of the recent employment of a live-in support worker. Management are not taking residents' concerns seriously, they have said they see residents' formal complaints as "moaning", and have proposed moving out residents who are struggling since the appointment (Sept 2007) of the support worker; who has no previous experience as a support worker and a very limited understanding of how to interact with others in a helpful and non-threatening way. If the situation continues they will be moving-on at least half of those residents (causing great and unneccessary emotional upheaval to those individuals - many of whom have moved more than 20 times in 30 years), rather than the individual support worker. A proposed "merger" with London Cyrenians in January 2008 is the only hope residents have to cling to that their situation in that hostel will improve with the employment of suitably qualified, experienced and motivated staff, from the top-down, in 2008.
