This virtual community serves the real community in many ways: finding information, engaging in debate including with local politicians, setting up interest groups, bringing neighbours together, publicising local events and community groups as well as hosting a fantastic archive of photos and memories of the history of Harringay reminding us all of the area's rich identity and past. An essential bookmark for Harringay residents !
No more ignoring your neighbour’s friendly hello in the street, when all you wanted to do was slump down to the corner in sweatpants and pick up a packet of fags. No more Facebook kisses, chocolates or drinks or My Space willy-nilly invites from “friends” or to groups in which you’ve no interest. In fact, no more Facebook and more MySpace. Forget virtual communities. Instead, here’s our REAL community!
This site is brilliant. It enables not only focus on important local issues, as well as highlighting what they actually are, but is also excellent for social networking in the local community. It's also a great source of local knowledge, history and ideas. The site is well laid out, and very user friendly. The users themselves are friendly and welcoming as well. I am on the site all the time, and have met loads of lovely people in the area that I never would have met otherwise.
A fun, accessible and informative forum for local people to share information, news and make friends. I joined this online community in its initial stages when there were just a few members - to gain some insight into the local community as a recent newcomer to the area. It has rapidly gained momentum amongst residents boasting over 500 members all keenly interacting with each other. It has now become my first port of call to find out what the council are doing about real issues that get me fired up - like traffic, licensing and crime - as well as wheres good to have a drink, which dentists actually have appointments when you need them, or where to do a yoga class. I use the service regularly and know of no other that can provide me with such essential and useful info to enhance my life in the community.
I feel that this website brings people with shared interests within the community together, in a city where you often don't know who you neighbours are! It is a good way of getting to know the local area and asking others to review and reccommend local services. It is also well designed, regularly used and updated which is nice.
Sophisticated and useful local community webiste with many resources, lots of local information and a lively forum section.
Well thought out, comprehensive, great info, much needed
