It's not the first time that I had dinner there with friends. We used to think it's a easy cozy non-Chinese alternative in China town area, but not this time. So, it was a great disappointment, but why? Simply, the quality of food went down hill, and the services...(hum, this is complicated). A party of two, we ordered one korean curry ramen and one korean spicy beef stew with rice, a portion of udon (coz they would not swap rice with udon), and later added a portion of kimchi. When curry ramen arrived, my mate commented "it looked very different from the picture on menu", and no one would disagree. The flavour of curry was ok, the ramen was cooked about right. Yet that's all you get, the curry ramen was simply curry sauce served on ramen, and it costed 6.90 pounds. Okay, to be fair, we tasted a touch of eggplant bits in the curry, hurray! The korean beef stew was just entertaining. Me and my mate had a good laugh fishing out the beef slices from the soup. There were all together five slices, each a length of a match stick and the width of 2 match sticks (i am being kind). If put side to side, the 5 slices will make up to a half slice of beef in a stir fry. In case you are after some fun during a meal, try this beef stew. Because on our request, the cute waitor (he's new) checked with the chef and guaranteed us that 5 thin slices of beef are the usual standard of this soup. "It's a beef stew." - I think he meant it's not stewed beef, point taken. Good play with the words....Oh hang on, you can keep the chunks of beef, but can you at least serve me a hint of the taste of beef? I did not think their beef stew was anything more meaty than what i got from the korean packeted instant noodle. The up side of the dish? There's an egg and a handful of bean sprouts and spring onion pieces (Appreciation to the chef). The beef stew with rice also costed 6.90. Here's a clever suggestion from my mate, try naming the dish 'spicy bean sprouts clear soup' - yeah, people would even feel flattered when they noticed the famous 5 slices of beef. Service! I saw other people commented 'chaotic' in reviews elsewhere, to be honest, we've seen worst. Yet when we found out the starter pickles were complimentary to the western customers (thanks to the honest cute waitor again for telling us the truth), but we were left out, it's annoying. I was some what pissed to realised why the elder-manager-looking staff surprisngly said 'it's kimchi' when he got us the kimchi portion we ordered, he meant it's not a complimentary, you have to pay. Oh well, as we said to the cute waitor, "we are not complaining, we were just disappointed." - He apologised "Sorry, our service is terrible, you dont have to pay the service charge (which had been automatically added to our bill)." Sigh, wish the the management will be as bothered. Lucky you if you had a good experience in the Corean Chilli (smart that they didnt put Korean, huh?). We ran out of luck already.
Ss Z.
