  • 3 Escalator Animated Ads & Mosaics

This station grows on you. When I arrived at Tottenham Court road station taking the exit on the north side of Oxford Street I wasn't thrilled. The area outside seems to be undergoing renovation. But the stalls in the street at the top sell umbrellas at only £2.99 and all sorts of tempting items.A convenient crossing allows you to get over the road to the south side safely. Providing you obey the red and green signals to pedestrians.Coming back, in less of a hurry, I was much more impressed. Colourful mosaics were over the escalators. The advertisements on the walls were sets of animated images, constantly changing. Very high tec. I gasped, 'We don't have those out in the suburbs!' My friend and I bantered, "You ought to get out more.' 'On second thoughts, you ought to stay in more.'Downstairs at the end of a corridor we heard a young man playing on a bamboo flute. We paused to ask him where bamboo flutes come from - apparently all over Asia. He stopped playing the flute but the music carried on, at least the base drum accompaniment. Slightly surreal. He suggested that we photograph him alongside the circular mirror in the corner so as to get our own reflection in the mirror.
