  • 8 Massive and tasty ramen soup at Fujiyama

Had a delicious and bargainous meal here on a recent Monday night. We went for edamame beans, tempura and some delicious vege parcels for starters, and then three variations on the theme of Ramen for mains- all very tasty. With a bottle of wine, the bill came to a palatable £50.The service was top notch. We felt a bit watched at times, but I think this was just a desire to be attentive. We didn't feel rushed at any point. Very excited about the takeaway side of things because we live within three miles. We'll definitely be returning to the restaurant soon and will probably try some sushi next time.

  • 10 Like Wagamama's, but better

Tucked away in Brixton's back streets and yet only a stone's throw from the tube, Fujiyama's is a gem of a place, serving Japanese food including sushi and bento boxes, ramen, noodles and rice dishes. The plum wine is especially recommended! Busy and popular, you can choose to eat in, sitting at long tables next to complete strangers, or take advantage of Fujiyama's takeaway service (they will deliver within a three mile radius). The food is fresh and cooked to order, and has a loyal following. All in all it makes for a good value meal out, as something a bit different.

  • 10 Oh so good

Fujiyama is my favourite restaurant in London and a favourite place to take people who've not been before just to see their reactions as they tuck in. The prices are very reasonable, as are the portion sizes. The menu is extensive, with each section usually listing mild variations on similar dishes, but working your way through the menu is a pleasure. The sushi is gorgeous as are the other dishes and the strong taste of the constitute ingredients coming through the sauce is a great sign of their freshness. It also means that even fairly standard, simple dishes have a little extra to them making them taste even better. The prices are incredibly reasonable for what you get and the staff are efficient, yet not rude despite the assumed 10% inclusion of service charge.I just wish this place had some sort of loyalty card.

Fujiyama makes out that it is a japanese restaurant but all the staff are chinese!! It actually looks like it has the potential to be decent, there's a bit where you can sit and watch the chefs make sushi and there are also wagamama style benches that you share with other people when it's busy. The menu comprises of sushi, ramen and stir fried noodle dishes. The sushi is not very good at all, they don't cut the fish thick enough so you don't get the textural experience of when you bite into succulent raw fish and the rice is below average in both taste and texture. The ramens are okay but nothing spectacular. Haven't tried the stir fries.

  • 6 Past its peak?

Fujiyama offers modestly priced fair quality sushi and also serves rice, noodle and soup dishes to those who aren't enormous sushi fans. It has a relaxed unassuming atmosphere and friendly staff. Today's meal of breaded chicken curry however left much to be desired and tasted like processed nuggets. My only comfort was the nice pot of Jasmine tea I had ordered to help it go down. Next time, I'll stick to sushi. While Fujiyama has become something of a Brixton establishment among young professionals living there and I hate to write an unfavorable review about it, I feel that the place could use a serious refurb and a rethinking of their menu (less choice, more care) to keep it from slipping downmarket. Otherwise, if you find yourself out in the Brixton area with a lot of friends and fancy a filling meal that won't burn a hole in your pocket, it's a good place to go.
