The Brixton Academy was suited for the type of gig I went to see. It was Lemon Jelly on the night before their last tour ended and it was brilliant. The huge dome roofed area was filled with people but there were no problems that would escalate into injuries or the like. People were having a great time and their was plenty of room to dance and move about making crazy sorts of shapes. The stage was also big, allowing for the Jelly folks to have several instruments as well as plenty of room for movement. The only real draw back is that it is sponsored by Carling and so that is the only lager you are likely to be able to but there.

I went here recently to see The Hives play. At first it was good, we stood right at the front, got talking to lots of nice people. The support act came on and it was a really nice atmosphere. However, as soon as the Hives came on it suddenly got manic down at the front (mosh pit style). Now, this would've been ok and I would've fought my way out, but it was impossible. I also faint very easily in crowded situations, which inevitably happened as I had been stuck in the middle of a fight for several minutes. Due to the nature of the 'pit' no one noticed and there was no visible security to help me get out. It was a nightmare, so just bare that in mind if you decide to go here!

Firstly, the area is horrible so watch out and be careful if coming home late afterwards. The venue though is pretty cool, it's nicely decorated inside and has a pretty nice feel to it. Went there on a club night so the whole venue was pretty packed throughout, the building can get a bit confusing so you might lose your friends a while if you're anything like me! Cloakroom if I remember right was normal price. Drinks are expensive but what do you expect from a carling venue? I'd love to go back again....if only to see the Pogues at Christmas!

Quite simply an awesome night out!! Coldplay returned for their first gig since 2006 with the album launch of Viva La Vida at the Brixton Academy. The private bar upstairs prior to the gig was packed and there was a great buzz before Coldplay took the stage. They played a number of classics including an awesome acoustic version of yellow whilst sat on the balcony upstairs and Will Champion sang live for the very first time to huge applause. The new songs off the album also went down a treat with the set culminating in a triumphant finale of Fix You and Lovers in Japan. An awesome night in one of London's great music venues.
