Abeno is a Japanese restaurant serving a varied choice of traditional Japanese dishes with a menu that changes seasonally. A takeaway option is also available.

Fresh food, quality of the dishes and attentive staff
This is the only London restaurant I know of where you can have real Japanese okonomiyaki prepared right in front of you. Okonomiyaki is something like an omelette and something like a pizza – a thick pancake of eggs, rice and extra fillings of your choice (cheese, bacon, vegetables etc) which is mixed up to order and then cooked with artistry on a hot plate in the middle of your table. The hot plate is a novelty if you like that kind of thing but I had more fun flicking drops of Coke onto it to watch them dance across the table :-) Service is friendly and there are plenty options on the menu for those who don’t want a version of the signature dish.

I went to Abeno yesterday on my way to the British Museum. Not only Okonomiyaki but also Yaki Soba and Agetofu are so delicious. It is must-go place for whom wants to experience authentic Japanese foods. It is so crowded on weekend dinner that I recommend you avoid the time.Enjoy.
Being used to the Japanese restaurants in Italy (where you'll find just sushi and nothing more), Abeno was a pleasant surprise! The lunch menu I had was wonderful: miso soup, the day specials and hokonomi-yaki. The okonomi-yake was made just in front of me by a friendly and nice Japanese girl and it tasted like heaven. It was a light, very good and quick lunch!

Last night I went to Abeno with some friends. We wanted to have a different japanese experience, not just the usual sushi but something different. So a couple of friends with japanese connections recommended Abeno. The place is quite small and can be quite smoky, but you'll try something different. Just remember that once you get out of there you will be smelling of food....so get ready for that. Each table has a hot "piastra" in the middle where fod is cooked. You might have to wait a bit for your food but just order some starters and you'll be OK. The speciality there is the Okonomi-yaki which means as you like it and some says it's the japanese version of pizza! It is actually pretty good. We also had some starters, all quite good and especially the tofu and avocado gyozas: they were delicious. A must if you want to try something different and don't worry about smelly clothes...
