  • 10 And I thought Carte Dor was good!

Everyone who's visited this ice cream shop has always seemed very impressed - and quite rightly, because the stuff they serve in here goes beyond ice cream. Before I tasted Oddono's, I thought supermarket-bought Carte Dor ice cream was good... but boy, was I wrong! A tub of, say, chocolate chip from this place will change your ice cream palate forever. Rich and creamy, but with real flavours that you can actually taste, literally every variety I've had from here has been excellent. Unfortunately the prices have risen (like everywhere else) but the quality has stayed the same. It can be an expensive habit to break at £2 per tub, but it is most certainly worth it to satisfy your sweet craving on a dull weekend night.I usually carry out my ice cream but you can also sit in on one of their modern looking chairs, and enjoy a moment of cool Italian bliss in an otherwise ordinary London shopping day.

  • 10 Brilliant Gelato

Oddono's has its own shop on Bute Street as well as a concession in Selfridges on Oxford Street. On my first visit (years ago now) they recommended their hazelnut, rich and creamy and full of nutty flavour. After tasting my way through many of their gelatos, I highly recommend their pistachio, of which I have tasted no equal in London. Prefer something less creamy? Their sorbets burst with the flavour of fruit - mango and strawberry are my favourites.A small cone/cup now costs £2.

  • 10 The saviour of Italian Ice Cream in London

When the Owners of La Bottega del Gelato in Bayswater retired about 2 years ago I knew that Londoners who savour real Italian home made ice cream would be in serious trouble. The outlet has allegedly been passed on to a relative; however what is being served is clearly industrial. Some may remember a similar affair with the retirement of the owner and ice cream maker at Benigra on Tottenham Court Road some 8-10 years ago.Thankfully Christian O'Ddonno and a friend who were students in London and could not satisfy their taste for the Ice Cream of their homeland saw a gap in the market. After undergoing on the job training back in Italy they opened a superb Ice Cream Parlour in South Kensington that also supplies some notable restaurants. The sorbets and Ice Creams are really outstanding!Caramello and Panetone ice cream are my particular favourites.Oh and if you have just had a shish kofte or donner round the corner at Bospherous this is the perfect Ying after your Yang - food on the move par excellence !
