  Just got some parts replaced at Barnes. They 'informally' quoted a ballpark £46 and said come back in half hour. Like a schmuck i hadn't carefully checked what theyre quoting for.... like did the quote include labour and vat etc.... I went to pick the bike up and the cost had jumped to £75. I complained but theres not much i could do to save on the hassle..... The place seems to be run by a bunch of kids. If you have to use them make sure you get a proper quote. Never again for me.

  I'm a cycling enthusiast, and rely heavily upon EJ Barnes for all of my supplies and repairs. In eight years, I have never heard a rude or disrespectful tone from anybody who works there; in fact the opposite is true. When I read a scathing review such as the one below, I can only guess what the reviewer him/herself must be like. I can endorse this shop wholeheartedly.

  Dude, if you can't change a bike tire or put on handlebars then you deserved what you got for being an imbecile. On top of it you broadcast your stupidity worldwide. Next time go to youtube.com watch an instructional video and do it yourself if you're that cheap.

• AMAZING SERVICE!

  I think that the last three reviews by the same chap are very biased. I have been going to EJ Barnes for the past two years since I started cycling regualarly and they have always been incredibly polite and helpful. I had no idea they were a father & son team and they certainly have never tried to make out they they are perfect family company to me. I was recommended them by an old friend and everyone I know who uses them is very happy with the service. Also, I originally compared prices two years ago with a few other local bike shops & they were very competitive then & their prices have hardly gone up since. I am thrilled with them and would definately recommend.

  I have just left EJ Barnes and need to input a comment. I was swore at (every profranity in the book including words which start with S, F and C) and almost beaten up by the "father and son". This father and son team are hooligans to the enth degree. They charged me £45 to put handle bars and a front tire on my new bike. I checked it with other stores and this is WAY above normal price for 20 minutes work. When I asked if there was a cost difference between them assembling a technical bike or a simple one like mine they lost it and started threatening and shouting and swearing at me but NOT giving me an answer to my simple question. People need to know (thanks for the internet) that this "father son" team are crooks and hooligans and have mouths worth than sailors! DO NOT GO THERE! THERE ARE MANY OTHER BIKE SHOPS IN NOTTINGHILL!
