Mean people - will not lend you a pump; charge 50p to pump each tyre‎ -

I had a double snake-bite puncture at 7.30 this morning after hitting a pothole too hard. By 9am I had given up trying to fix it and was glad when the Cycle Store openning. I asked them if I could borrow a Track Pump but they refused on 'health and safety' grounds, pointing to a notice to that effect. They offered to pump the tyres up for me but said there would be a 50p charge for each wheel. I was pretty shocked by this treatment of a fellow cyclist who was in need of a bit of help but perhaps people wander in the shop a lot to ask for freebies or loaning of tools. So, I asked, 'what if I buy something, like some more inner tubes, will you still charge me 50p to pump up each tyre?'. Yes they said. This is the unfriendliest bike shop I have ever come across. I was so annoyed that I decided to leave, still with a flat tyre and walk to Hammersmith (where I could not find a bike shop) and then into Kensington where the guys at Cycle Surgery were only too happy to help, lending me a pump and a nice spot to use it inside the shop. I spent �£15 on new inner tubes with them. They were very human about it and were as surprised as me that another shop had tried to charge me 50p for air. Already having a bad day with 2 punctures at the same time (one in each wheel), this was a real kicker. Normally people help you out when you are having a bit of trouble, especially cyclists!
