• A great butchers

  McKanna is a pricey but great butchers that gets my hearty recommendation. The quality of the meat is top drawer and the lads - who are all very friendly - display a high degree of knowledge and skill. Of particular quality are the sausages and the extensive game options. Also, plenty of cheap cheap cheeses are available.It can get expensive (e.g. £20 for 2 generous fillet steaks) but its central London and you're getting serious produce. As always, to ensure better value for money, be sure to ask for the meat to be prepared exactly as you need it.

  When I visit McKanna (aka Theobalds) I feel like a child in a toy shop! They are traditional butchers and they love their meat! I started sourcing from the guys during the mad cow era. They were the only butchers I could find in central London who could supply Australian beef.The quality of the produce is excellent and the service is second to none! FANTASTIC!Beware:- on the major Feast days (Easter and Christmas) get your order in early and pick up early because their queues stretch up Theobalds Road.Once you taste their quality and see it's much cheaper buying from a real butcher - you'll never buy meat and poultry from the supermarket chain (except waitrose) again.
