Walnut serve a selection of dishes from a modern European menu.
Walnut is Modern European Cuisine served in a stylish but relaxed interior by outstandingly knowledgeable staff. It is stylish-looking, with intriguing but comfortable leather chairs. The open-plan kitchen is on a mezzanine level, so you can watch Mr Doyle at work Best dish:Game & Fish :)
When we arrived to Walnut around 7pm on a Thursday, the place was almost empty. We went for half a bottle of red wine for £17.5 which was just ok. They served us with tasty fresh bread which was nice. My seabass was cooked to perfection and I really enjoyed it. The problem was that the restaurant started to get full and there was only one waitress. People were waiting for ages and the waitress could only apologies for something which was not her fault. It seemed a bit careless. If you check their website, the menu section generate an error which again shows you that they are not checking every detail.http://www.walnutwalnut.com/For dessert we had a crumble with ice cream which was good and a Creme Brulee which was unexceptable (the texture had strange bits in it) We paid around £30 each which was way too much for what we got.http://www.walnutwalnut.com/
Now I had lived in WH for 2 years before I finally booked into Walnut. I don't know to this day why, there was just something about the outside that turned me off. However having finally walked through the door on my way home one evening to book a Saturday night table, I completely changed my mind and my view of this restaurant. From the second we walked through the door to the end of the meal we had a thoroughly enjoyable time. From the friendly and knowledgeable staff; the menu with its mix of staples and intruiging specials (I had Ox Cheeks for main) and the rather lovely wine menu, this place was just great. If I was pushed, I would say the two downsides are the rather tight sittings (meaning we ate late as we couldn't get a table for the preferred 8.30 time), and (now this is picky and very personal) the fact that they don't serve espresso, only filter coffee.Go there and support them, we certainly will be again
Found on the cafe road of west hampstead (west end lane). The food was very good, and on the gastro end. They have recieved raving reviews on one of their signatrure dishes, which is bangers & mash! trendy place, and service was execellent.
